Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Madison

You have many options to commemorate the life and work of Dr. King this MLK Jr. Day weekend! The annual Day of Service from the Urban League is hosting a session from 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. on January 17th at the Discovery Building. Celebrating a “day on, not day off” from service is the goal of Urban League, which is why the morning is steeped in keynote addresses and lectures, followed by an afternoon of community service.

Enjoy a continental breakfast followed by career workshops and exploration sessions. A noon break for lunch is coupled with a surprise, featured speaker. In the afternoon, a variety of community service projects are available—or you can choose your own! Poetry slams, playsquads and more special events are in store.

A Day of Remembrance

The MLK Youth Day of Service is a popular event for kids and teens and takes place January 17th throughout the city. If you’re traveling with kids, you can register online, and get ready for a day of celebration and service. The Wisconsin Institute for Discovery is the go-to host facility for this event and welcomes youth to a world of exploration.

Wisconsin Public Television is proud to host the Black Culture Connection. It’s available in your guest room and features keynote addresses and MLK Jr.-centric programming throughout January and the holiday weekend.
