Merry Madison Christmas

Madison is often a true winter wonderland, and it all starts at the annual Fantasy in Lights display. Starting in mid-November and ending January 2, the lights turn on at Olin Park at 4 p.m. daily. The free event has been taking place for 17 years, and is truly a Madison tradition. Pack a thermos of coffee or hot cocoa, pick up some holiday treats from a local bakery and stroll through the incredible displays. It’s the perfect date or family outing.

MSO: A Madison Symphony is another holiday tradition you won’t want to miss. The family-friendly performances are scheduled for December 1 at 7:30 p.m., December 2 at 8 p.m. and December 3 at 2:30 p.m. It’s an idyllic way to kick off the season and let your holiday spirit soar in this 45-minute journey of Christmas carols in the Overture lobby.

Good Tidings and Joy

The Monroe Street Christmas Walk is a favorite activity in Madison this time of year. Hosted by the merchants of Monroe for nearly 40 years, it takes participants through the 1700-1900 blocks with Christmas carols at every stop. There are new merchants every year as well as holiday treats, raffles and surprises. You won’t want to miss out on this cheery event scheduled the first Sunday in December at noon.

There’s also the Very Merry Series at Hilldale Mall every Saturday and Thursday in December, a number of free programs at the Wisconsin State Capitol during the month and the Olbrich Concert Series Sundays in December at 2 p.m. Make the most of your “merry Madison” and enjoy a full month of fun and festivities!
