Life is all about balance—like balancing those rich holiday meals with a little extra recreation. Outdoor runs in Madison let you take in the beauty of the city from a new perspective. Sign up for the Madison Turkey Trot and “run the tradition” (which means famous cinnamon rolls when you cross the finish line). The chip-timed event is a 5k with an alternative kid’s run for the littlest trotters. Sign up today, and check out all the swag you’ll get. It takes place on Thanksgiving morning, but there are plenty of other options to get your gobble wobble on.
The Madison College Turkey Trot is another 5k and is held on November 5. You don’t need to be in college for this fun run, but if you avoided those early morning classes when you were a student, this race is for you. It starts a little later in the morning, and there’s also a one-mile kid’s run if you’re bringing the entire crew to town.
Hot to Trot
Some runners make it an annual tradition to come to town for the Madison Marathon. This year, it takes place November 12, with a half-marathon option. The Boston qualifier is a challenging yet gorgeous route that takes runners through the streets of downtown and along some of the lesser-known scenic routes. Hurry, registration fills up fast!
The Berbee Derby 10k on November 23 is just challenging enough for runners of many abilities. Costumes are encouraged at this silly run, and there’s always a 5k option for those who want a shorter challenge before the big feast.
